Forming a circle of peace.
Solomons Island, Maryland
We began in 2003, coming from different spiritual and political persuasions, to work together for peace. We organized a series of peace walks and other events during the months preceding the current war in Iraq. We found that there were many others in the community who felt a need to take a more active role in peacemaking.

At one of these events, speakers called attention to questions about the justice of war. At others, we simply walked in silence, meditating on words by great world leaders who advocated that the violence of war be truly 'a last resort.' At yet another, we read aloud the names of those who had already, in May 2003, given their lives in that conflict.
